Kazakhstan works on improving road safety using many tools. These tools include both physical traffic safety devices on roads, and technology / legal systems. Below I describe common physical safety equipment, and some of the supporting systems.These devices help drivers see the road, avoid hazards, and stay in lanes. Kazakhstan uses or is improving many of these.
Road Signs
Kazakhstan already requires many road signs (directional, warning, regulatory) on highways, rural roads, and in towns. The government builds more as road capacity and standards grow.
Road signs also help with speed limit, curve warning, intersection warnings, etc.
Reflectors / Delineators
Although I found little specific data naming “road delineators / guardrail reflectors / solar delineators,” Kazakhstan law demands good “visual orientation” for drivers when designing highways. That implies they use retroreflective markings, reflectors, possibly delineators along edges to help shape the view at night.
Road Markings
Pavement markings (lane lines, shoulder lines, center stripes) form essential safety devices. Drivers rely on them, especially in dark or in poor visibility. Legislation stresses surface adhesion, well-designed road shape, and visibility.
Guardrails and Barriers
Governments use guardrails and traffic barriers to protect vehicles from leaving the road or entering dangerous areas (cliffs, drop-offs, fixed obstacles). In recent years, Kazakhstan has begun testing wire guardrails, in addition to traditional metal or concrete barriers. These allow snow to pass, reduce accumulation, and improve visibility.
Temporary Safety Devices
On road construction or maintenance sites, Kazakhstan uses temporary warning signs, barriers, possibly traffic cones or delineator posts, to guide traffic and warn drivers. The Prime Minister has noted deficiencies in temporary signage and markings on unfinished road sections.
Pedestrian Safety Facilities
The country places crosswalks, elevated crossings (bridges), fences to control pedestrian movement, and sometimes barriers (guardrails) near roadsides to prevent pedestrians from entering dangerous parts of roads.
